K-pop in the Philippines: The Craze Continues

K-Pop TXT

There’s something about K-pop in the Philippines that just works. It’s not just about the catchy beats or the flawless choreography—though those help. It’s the feeling behind the music, the connection fans build, and the stories that go beyond language.

Filipino fans don’t just listen—they participate. They stream, trend hashtags, create art, and build tight-knit communities online and offline. On TikTok and Twitter, you’ll find Filipinos leading fan projects, organizing giveaways, even translating lyrics for others.

Music Beyond Language

And even if most K-pop songs are in Korean, it doesn’t matter as much as you’d think. A lot of songs sprinkle in English lines, and fans are quick to look up translations or even study Korean themselves. But more than that, it’s the delivery—the emotion in the voice, the way the music video tells a story—that cuts across language. You can feel heartbreak or joy in a chorus, even if you don’t speak the words. That’s why it sticks.

Hallyu: The Korean Wave

K-pop is just one part of what’s called Hallyu, or the Korean Wave. It started with dramas like Winter Sonata years ago, but now it’s everywhere—music, skincare, food, fashion, even language. In the Philippines, it’s found a second home. Fans welcome it all. Some learn Korean. Others try Korean recipes at home. Some fall in love with actors or idol groups, and others with the entire culture.

Tomorrow X Together

One of the biggest rising names in K-pop in the Philippines right now is TOMORROW X TOGETHER, or TXT. Since their debut in 2019, they’ve carved a space of their own, blending pop, rock, and R&B with lyrics about growing up, feeling lost, or finding hope. It’s not surprising that their message hits home for so many Filipino fans.

TXT hasn’t performed in the Philippines yet, but you wouldn’t guess it from the way Filipino MOAs (Moments of Alwaysness, the fanbase name) show their support. They organize streaming parties, share edits, and constantly hope Manila gets added to a future tour. For now, they’re cheering from afar as the group prepares for their first-ever European tour, with stops in London, Paris, and Berlin this April.

Song Joong Ki’s Visit to the Philippines

And it’s not just music that’s making waves. This May, Song Joong Ki, one of South Korea’s biggest actors, will finally visit the Philippines for his first fan meet. Known for Descendants of the Sun, his arrival is another moment proving just how deep the love for Korean culture runs here.
