Erwin Tulfo Files for Senate: Focus on Poverty Alleviation

Erwin Tulfo, former journalist and ACT-CIS Party-list representative, has officially filed his candidacy for the 2025 Senate race, with a focus on poverty alleviation. He seeks to join his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, in the upper chamber. On October 6, Erwin submitted his certificate of candidacy to the Commission on Elections, running under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s slate, “Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”

Erwin’s previous role was as Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), though his appointment wasn’t confirmed by the Commission on Appointments. Afterward, he continued his public service as a representative of the ACT-CIS Partylist in the House of Representatives, where he focused on supporting marginalized groups and advancing public welfare.

Like his brother, Erwin has built a strong following as a broadcaster, known for his direct approach in resolving people’s grievances. His influence extends across social media, where his Facebook page boasts over 6.6 million followers. The phrase “i-Tulfo mo” (Take it to Tulfo) has become associated with his ability to address public complaints quickly, further strengthening his connection with the Filipino public.

In the lead-up to the elections, Erwin has consistently placed among the top candidates in senatorial preference surveys. His campaign emphasizes a focus on poverty alleviation, but he also plans to advocate for the middle class and working professionals, whom he believes are often overlooked in government policies. Erwin has stated that issues such as better wages and improved benefits for private sector workers need to be addressed.

If elected, Erwin intends to push for reforms that will improve conditions for workers, particularly in the private sector. With his brother Ben also running for the Senate, there is a possibility that all three Tulfo brothers—Erwin, Raffy, and Ben—could serve in the Senate, increasing their family’s influence in both media and politics.
